Choosing an alpha or a gray matte
Use the Alpha and Gray checkboxes on the Properties window to set what's in the matte:
- With an alpha matte, the matte's alpha channel is used to determine what's in the matte. Regions that are opaque are in the matte, and regions that are transparent are not in the matte.
- With a gray matte, the matte's colors are used to determine what's in the matte. Regions that are black are in the matte, and regions that are white are not in the matte.
Intermediate values give a partial matte; the matted image is then partially transparent. For example, using the normal gray matte below - which is colored 50% black - gives a region of the matted image that is 50% opaque:
